The National President, Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Obi Casmir, has commended the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma for giving scholarship award to a nine-year-old hawker, who exhibited singing talents.
Casmir told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that Uzodimma did well by taking up the responsibility to sponsor Master Joseph Opara aspiring to be a priest.
The Governor had awarded scholarship to the nine-year-old hawker, promising he would sponsor the child’s education from primary school till he becomes a Catholic priest.
Opara made waves on the Internet at the weekend with a video footage of his Catholic hymn songs, which marked him out as a talented singer.
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, who visited Opara at his parents residence at Nekede mechanic village in Owerri announced the governor’s benevolence to the family.
He said, “Governor Hope Uzodimma was so excited after listening to the video footage of Master Opara and he directed me to locate you and inform you that from today, Joseph is now his child and that since he wants to become a Catholic priest, he will take up the responsibility of training him from his present Primary Four class until he is ordained a priest.”
