Namibia Govt Banned Politicians From Buying New Cars Till 2025:
President of Namibia Hage Geingob, has announced a five-year ban on buying new cars for government and politicians.
The President, made this known on his Twitter handle on Thursday and also ordered a limit on consumption of fuel monthly by public office holders.
Mr Geingob said the decision was taken because of the “difficult period of COVID-19.”
“Government will not order a new vehicle fleet for the Executive and Public Office Bearers for the period 2020-2025,” he wrote.
“No new vehicles will be purchased for members of the executive and public office bearers in the Namibian government.”
He said the resolution would save 200 million Namibian dollars (US$10.7 million), which will be directed “to urgent priorities, specifically at a time when the country is dealing with the health and economic implications of COVID-19”.
The country with a population of 2.5 million people only has so far recorded 16 confirmed cases of covid-19 in the Nation.
