FCTA Withdraws Statement Threatening Doctors To Call Off Strike Or Be Sacked:

While countries all over the world, have their doctors protecting and saving lives from the pandemic that has befallen the world. Doctors in abuja have been on strike for over a week now, due to action the FCTA threatened to sack them.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has withdrawn the circular mandating members of the National Association of Resident Doctors, FCT chapter, to go back to work within 48 hours or consider themselves sacked.

This was achieved by the intervention of the House of Representatives.

The Tanko Sununu-led House Committee on Health Services had met with officials of the FCTA and Nigerian Medical Association on Friday.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, it was resolved that a five-man committee comprising a member of the NMA, two members of the NARD FCT chapter, and two FCTA representatives should look into the issues relating to payment of the doctors.

The statement added that it was resolved at the meeting that the FCTA should source for funds from alternative sources to pay a flat rate to 36 doctors who had not been paid between six to seven months, pending when the issue is resolved.

It partly read, “The NMA, led by its President, Dr Francis Faduyile, informed the committee that the national body had directed all its members on strike to resume duties at their posts, while the association continued with the negotiations with the FCTA on behalf of the striking doctors.
