A former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim has written his earnest desire for Imo State.
“What do you wish for Imo State?
We all have various diverse desires and wishes so maybe I’ll say what I wish for Imo State and maybe from there we can see if our desires are different or whether we desire the same thing for our dear state.
I desire a prosperous Imo State where everybody will have the opportunity to become whatever he or she desires to be.
I desire a peaceful Imo State where we can call home and where we can raise our children without fear chaos and unrest.
I desire a progressive Imo State where corruption would be reduced to the barest minimum if not eradicated entirely in government circles.
I desire an Imo State where Due Process and accountability from government in the discharge of their stewardship to the people is key to development.
I desire an Imo State with free or very affordable, world-class healthcare services to our people.
I desire an Imo State where our universities and school provide qualitative education for our children equipping them to be able to compete with their peers anywhere in the world.
I desire an Imo State with good roads that last long and help in the ease of doing business in Imo.
I desire an Imo State with pipe borne water running in my house, supplied by the state water board as we used to have a few years ago and not water from boreholes that expose us to ecological mishaps.
I desire an Imo State with a happy and effective workforce where civil servants are paid their salaries in full and pensioners are paid their entitlements.
I desire an Imo State where Rule of Law and respect for the judiciary as we used to have, takes center stage in everything we do.
I desire an Imo State where our youths are equipped to face the challenges that lie ahead.
I desire an Imo State that thrives in agriculture and commerce, an Imo State that would one day stop it’s dependence on Federal allocations and be sufficient on her own.
I desire an Imo State you and I can proudly call home.
I know it wouldn’t be a day’s task. It takes the Will to serve to be able to Rebuild and Restore the lost years but with you, it is very possible.
I don’t know what you desire for Imo State. Are you among those who desire chaos and confusion for personal gains or do you really care for the growth and development of Imo State.
Without a shred of doubt, I am confident that Imo had returned to the Hands of God.
May God Almighty continue to bless you all the great and wonderful people of Imo State.”
