While the agitation for political independence of the state of Biafra uncontrollably continues.
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, told the Federal High Court Abuja on Thursday that he is ready to face trial if his safety is guaranteed by the court.
He made this known through his counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor to the presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako.
Ejiofor revealed to the court that the bid was to restore
the IPOB leader’s bail so that he can face his trial which was filed against him on April 1.
“We have a letter for bail levied against him on April 1, 2019 and it’s due for hearing.
“We therefore charge the court to restore his bail on the assurances that his safety is guaranteed when he comes back to the country to continue his trial,” he said.
Justice Nyako while delivering the ruling, adjourned the case till Jan. 16, and also revealed that putting Kanu in prison is the only way he could guarantee his safety.
She also revealed that even the judges in the country no longer feel safe.
“So prison is the only safest place for him because even judges are being abducted in the country. she said.
According to our source, daily post; News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that Justice
Nyako has ordered that Nnamdi Kanu be re-arrested for the crime of self proclamation of been the leader of Biafra.
She gave the order in a ruling after revoking the bail
granted to him.
Kanu’s failure to appear in court after his bail was granted in April 2017 has made the court to order for his re-arrest.
