The Federal Government yesterday fulfilled its threat and immediately stopped the salaries of its workers, most especially, members of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) who have not featured in the Integrated Payroll and
Personnel Information System (IPPIS ).

While presenting the 2020 budget proposal to the
National Assembly, President Muhammadu Buhari directed
the stoppage of salaries of any Federal staff (sic) that has not been captured on
the (IPPIS ) platform by the
end of October 2019.

This development will leave the affected workers to forfeit their two months salaries and also face the
prospect of a cashless Christmas celebration.

Following their National Economic Council meeting at Presidential Villa Abuja, Zainab Ahmed, the Minister of Finance, Budget and
National Planning told
reporters that ASUU staffs cannot be treated differently from other federal staffs that are on IPPIS. Revealing that his directives is from the president.

Efforts to speak with the Accountant General and Zainab proved abortive as they were involved in series of meeting on the matter.

An official who asked for his identity to be hidden revealed that if there are plans to review this issue by tomorrow, he doesn’t know but for now, that is the situation on ground and that the minister and all relevant officials have met and worked on it.

The unnamed official condemned the ASUU
members act of receiving several monthly salaries from different institutions. This act he revealed was the basis of their rejection to IPPIS, which to him will bring an end to that unlawful act.
