Flood Renders People Homeless In Benue State Nigeria:
There is no doubt that flood and other natural disaster is a conventional issues especially countries that have heavy amount of rain annually.
Just in, a terrible rainfall has rendered families and residents homeless in Benue State, Submerging and destroying millions of properties in the process.
Parts of the state including Makurdi witnessed heavy rainfall that started on Sunday and lasted till the early hours of Tuesday, killing animals and destroying houses.
Punch recorded that correspondents who visited some affected areas in Makurdi noticed that some residents were left stranded while others managed to remove their remaining properties.
Some of the affected places visited were Wadata, Wurukum, Idye, Akpehe and Gboko Road.
According to the Punch Newspapers, Mrs Ruth Emmanuel, who owns a three bed room apartment revealed that she travelled out of the town when she got the information that her apartment had been flooded.
“On getting the information, i had to hurry back, reaching home only to discover that the entire house had been engulfed, ” she said.
Speaking on the flood, Emmanuel Shior, the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Relief Management Agency, revealed that the government plans to open a camp for the displaced persons.
Shior revealed that a place have been prepared for them at Makurdi International Market, because the government hopes that the flood will not stay for too long.
Shior assured them that as soon as the water cedes back, those who can return to their houses will return and those who cannot, the government will get alternative places for them.
